Amonte scores 30th of season

RECAP | BOX SCORE

CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Blackhawks found their missing power play.

They scored two power-play goals and Jocelyn Thibault stopped 19 shots as Chicago beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-0 on Sunday.

Eric Daze opened the scoring for the Blackhawks with his second power-play goal in as many games.

It was the first time since Dec. 21 the Blackhawks have scored two power-play goals at home. Chicago has struggled all season with the man advantage, scoring only 12 percent of the time.

"Today we won a game because of the power play," said Steve Sullivan, who assisted on both power-play goals. "We stepped up to the challenge and we are going to have to keep doing that if we want to be successful. It's something we had to improve, and tonight we did get with it."

Tony Amonte led the Blackhawks with a goal and assist, getting his 30th goal of the season on a power play at 18:37 of the second period.

With Mattias Norstrom sitting for slashing, Sullivan went around Rob Blake and passed to a cutting Amonte, who swatted the puck out of the air past Jamie Storr. Amonte's goal marked the sixth consecutive season the winger has scored 30 or more goals.

"As soon as I got to the blue line, I got around Blake and I could hear Tony Amonte screaming," Sullivan said. "He was open, and I just tried to throw it to the middle. I got a little too much sauce on it, but Tony being the player he is just knocked it in."

"That play was coming to my left and I just wanted to intercept it." Storr said. "He tipped it before it crossed my body. It was a great tip, and I wouldn't do anything different."

Thibault earned his fifth shutout of the season, and the 16th of his career.

"The game was easy technically for a goalie," Thibault said. "In the first period, they had a couple good chances, But in the second and third period, plays were happening very clearly in front of me."

The Kings failed to score on six power play chances in the game.

"We had too many players we count on that must've had something else on their minds," Kings coach Andy Murray said. "You want them to know how important it is for them to execute."

Eric Daze opened the scoring with his second power-play goal in as many games by lifting a high wrist shot past a sprawling Storr at 8:06 of the second period. After taking a pass from Sullivan, Amonte drew Storr's attention and fed Daze in front of the net for the easy score.

With Jamie Storr pulled for the extra attacker, Michael Nylander scored his 19th goal of the season at 19:00 in the third.

Game notes
Mathieu Schneider was cut below his eye in the third period and did not return. ... Stu Grimson received his first game misconduct of the season for instigating a fight with Bob Probert in the third period. Grimson has 15 fighting majors this season and Probert has 8.
