Senators' goalie now has five shutouts this season

RECAP | BOX SCORE

OTTAWA (AP) -- Patrick Lalime is starting to fill up the Ottawa Senators record book.

After setting a mark for victories in a season in his last game, Lalime tied a team record with his fifth shutout this season as Ottawa extended its winning streak to four games with a 4-0 victory Sunday night over the Montreal Canadiens.

"I didn't know about that," Lalime said. "It's just nice to get a win and the shutout is a little plus."

Lalime, in his 11th career shutout, stopped 25 shots and tied the season-high shutout record set by Damian Rhodes in 1997-98.

"We just want to keep going forward," Lalime said. "We've got another big game (Monday) in Buffalo. Those division games are really important. We want to keep them as far behind as we can."

Montreal captain Saku Koivu had the Canadiens' best scoring chance when he rang a shot off the post with eight seconds left in the second period.

The Canadiens, 0-for-6 on the power play, lost for the second consecutive night after dropping a 6-3 home decision to Washington on Saturday.

"Both games over the weekend, we weren't ready," Koivu said. "We lost all the battles. It's tough to play against these teams when they're leading by two or three goals."

Radek Bonk scored twice, and Shawn McEachern and Daniel Alfredsson also tallied for Ottawa, which finished 4-1 in its season series against Montreal. Alfredsson and Alexei Yashin also had two assists.

"We're pretty hot as a team," Alfredsson said. "We know we're in for a struggle in Buffalo, so this game is coming up at a good time for us."

Bonk delighted the sellout crowd at the Corel Centre when he opened the scoring with his 16th goal at 7:24 of the second period. It was just his second goal in 19 games and it snapped an eight-game goal-scoring drought.

"I think I tried to stay positive, even when I wasn't scoring," Bonk said. "Every time you score, your confidence goes up a little bit."

McEachern made it 2-0 when he took an Andreas Dackell pass and fired a long shot past Canadiens goalie Jeff Hackett 14:26 into the second period for his 21st goal.

Alfredsson tapped in the rebound of a shot by Yashin from the edge of the crease, on a power play, 10:20 into the third to put Ottawa up by three.

Bonk scored his second of the game and 17th of the season with 1:07 left to seal the victory.

"It feels good when you score and the team wins," Bonk said. "The goals weren't coming easily for me lately, so I'll take it."

Game notes
Lalime is 8-2-1 against Montreal. ... Ottawa held a 33-25 margin in shots, including a 15-6 edge in the first. ... Montreal has been shut out seven times this season.
