Tkachuk, Stillman score first goals for Blues

RECAP | BOX SCORE

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) – Jarome Iginla spoiled Cory Stillman's homecoming.

Iginla scored with 5.4 seconds left in the third period as the Calgary Flames rallied to tie the St. Louis Blues 2-2 Saturday night.

With Calgary goalie Fred Brathwaite pulled for an extra skater, defenseman Phil Housley fired a shot at the St. Louis net. The shot trickled through a crowd before Iginla swept the puck past Blues goalie Roman Turek.

"There was a scrum in front, but Phil saw me coming in the back door," Iginla said. "The pass got knocked down a bit, but it was still sitting there as I went past the net and I was able to bank it in. It felt good because we worked hard all night and we deserved that goal."

Stillman, a former Flame, and Keith Tkachuk, traded from Phoenix to St. Louis as part of a four-player deal on Tuesday, each scored their first goals for the Blues in the first period.

"It was nice to get my first one here but the only better thing would have been to get a win," said Stillman, who was drafted by the Flames in 1992. "It was unfortunate to give up a goal with just five seconds left, but we're going to get better and the biggest thing is playing well down the stretch."

The sellout crowd of 17,139 cheered loudly when Stillman's goal was announced.

"I like Stillman a lot, played with him for a lot of years, but he'll have a lot more game-winners and he didn't need this one against us tonight," Iginla said.

Valeri Bure scored his 24th goal of the season for Calgary, which is winless in its last seven games (0-5-2).

"We're really playing for ourselves and our pride right now," Iginla said. "This was a step in the right direction. Everyone played hard and played well and we need more of that. We need to get that winning feeling going and build up our confidence so we can bring it over to next year."

St. Louis trails the Central Division-leading Detroit Red Wings by three points.

"It was a huge opportunity for us with Detroit losing today and you just can't allow yourselves to give up a goal that late in the game," Tkachuk said. "You have to find a way to keep the puck out and win the game."

Each team had scoring chances in overtime. Brathwaite made seven saves and Iginla hit the post.

Tkachuk opened the scoring at 2:24 of the first with his 30th goal of the season. Tkachuk burst over the blue line, cut across the slot and deked Brathwaite before firing the puck into the net.

Stillman also made a nice play on his power-play goal at 9:21, which gave St. Louis a 2-0 lead. Stillman battled for position at the top of the Calgary crease before redirecting Marty Reasoner's centering pass.

Calgary closed within a goal less than three minutes after Stillman's score on a goal by Bure.
