AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- High wind Sunday forced officials to call off racing in the America's Cup challenger series for the second consecutive day.
Wind gusted regularly above 20 knots and peaked around 29 knots before the race committee decided to abandon racing about 15 minutes after the scheduled start. On Saturday, the challenger repechages were wiped out because of light and shifty wind.
OneWorld of Seattle was scheduled to race New York's Stars & Stripes, and Prada of Italy was to face Sweden's Victory Challenge in the first races of best-of-seven quarterfinal repechages.
The winners of the repechage series will join Alinghi of Switzerland and Oracle of San Francisco in challenger semifinals starting Dec. 9. |
