April 23, 1999 Step inside their world Tom Farrey, ESPN.com
In the second episode of the first season of Arli$$, the HBO show that looks at the sports world through the experience of a fictitious agent, Arliss Michaels positions himself to represent a high-school basketball star who announces he's skipping college and will jump straight to the NBA. Arliss uses the opportunity to settle a score with team owner Buddy Reingold.
In the next episode, according to the official Arli$$ web site, temptation gets the better of squeaky-clean QB Dan Hendricks. Arliss battles with a client's desire to confess his sins to the world, while keeping the suspicious media and a scorned wife at bay.
In the fifth episode of the second season, Sports Illustrated is planning an article about sports agents and will select only one agent to grace the magazine's cover. Despite some early maneuvering, Arliss thinks he's out of the running. But "the working man's friend" puts on his best moves in OT when he risks his own life to save client Damian Niles.
Is the world of agents really as manic as the one presented on Arli$$? Two prominent agents, as well as the creator of Arli$$, took questions from ESPN.com users in chat sessions on Thursday. Check out what they had to say.
Our lineup:
His story ideas aren't pulled from thin air, either, as the show uses prominent sports agents as consultants. In the chat session, Wuhl hinted at what to expect in the season ahead.
If you missed the chat session, here's the Wuhl transcript.
A newcomer to the sports-agent business, No Limit Sports also represents four NBA players and six WNBA players -- excluding Master P, who got a tryout with the Charlotte Hornets this season. Separate from No Limit Sports, Hardy, a former pro boxer and Wall Street investment banker, also does some marketing work for Venus and Serena Williams.
Here's the Hardy transcript.
Rosenhaus, who actually has graced the cover of Sports Illustrated for his flamboyant ways and aggressive manner, wrote the 1998 autobiography "A Shark Never Sleeps."
Here's the Rosenhaus transcript.
