| Here are your responses from last week's Page 2 Power Poll:
Have you heard of the Detroit Red Wings' nine-game unbeaten streak? Who are these voters anyway? the Florida presidential people? Samip Detroit It's a disgrace that the Detroit Red Wings are not on that list.. They have not lost a game this month and are only five points behind the Avs! JZ Maynard, Mass. The Avalanche should be first. They did more to enhance their chance at a Stanley Cup than the Sixers did to earn a NBA title. York Young Fort Wayne, Ind. It seems the red-hot Detroit Red Wings, still flexing their muscles, missed out in the Power Poll this week. You guys included the Jazz, winners of eight out of their last nine and who, like the Wings, have been categorized season after season as being able to compete in only geriatric ward rec games. Undefeated in their last nine, including a win at almighty Dallas, and now only 1 point behind the Central-leading Blues, the "aging" Red Wings do something that never gets old, they win. Let's all keep talking about Rob Blake and the Avs, they deserve it, but don't engrave the Cup just yet. Dan Chicago Finally! UK Men's hoops makes it to the Power Poll. Tubby's got these guys playing like a Top 10 team. One question for you guys, why isn't Tennessee men's hoops on the weaklings poll? Right now, it is as weak as it comes. My old high school could whip these boys, AT UT no less ... Chris Adams Lexington, Ky. You need to reward coach Jerry Green of the University of Tennessee "basketball" team for losing eight of 10 with one of the most talented squads in college hoops. That man deserves to be ranked before he gets the ax. Mic Washington By next week, I think it will be about time the Flyers crack the Top 10 power list. It is a no-name team with the exception of its top line and still finds a way to be atop the standings. Even though the Flyers have their mess-ups like in Pittsburgh, they still can come back and play great as a team. Nick Philadelphia Don't give the Yankees the crown yet. They still have to win their division, which won't be easy. The Red Sox have a good closer of their own in Derrick Lowe, and this year they have some guy named Manny who is supposed to be pretty good. Zack Hoover Chelmsford, Mass. New York Yankees No. 3 flexing their muscles? More like flexing their wallets. Get real! Duncan Newell Boston The Red Sox should be in the Top Ten -- with Manny Ramirez, Nomar Garciaparra, Carl Everett, and Pedro Martinez -- they can match up with anyone and will. The addition of Hideo Nomo -- up there in quality starts -- will also add to the team's success. They are much stronger than last year and they almost made the playoffs. This year they'll be in -- they should be climbing your charts right on the Yankees' heels. Pete Monigle Saco, Maine I think the New York Yankees ought to be handed the World Series. I'm getting tired of them winning the series. They should just buy every good player in the MLB. Addison Nicoll Logansport, Ind. More props to the Yankees? The Red Sox will be on top of the AL East when the dust settles in 2001. Maybe "The Curse" being lifted is too much to ask, so I won't predict World Series, but the Yankees are going to fall hard from this poll. They locked up a reliever whose best years are behind him. Stop the madness and leave the Bronx Bombers off the poll until they show they are capable of scoring more than three runs a game this year. Page 2 still rules. I don't need the Red Sox in the poll, just the Yankees off! Mike Riley Quincy, Mass. Is this only for American teams? What about Manchester United of England, and AC Roma for Italy? Those are two dominant clubs of the world, not just their country. Judson Aurora, Colo. For weaklings of the week, you would have to include my beloved Penn State men. A chance to be a sleeper in the Big Ten, blowout wins over Minnesota and Purdue, a chance to upset Michigan State on the road ... And we choke against Northwestern. Way to go, guys. Jake Lane Alexandria, Pa. Even though I am a big-time Devils fan, I don't think the New York Rangers should be considered for the bottom five. They have played well over the past week and a half, they still have an outside shot at the playoffs, plus (according to the back page of the New York papers ) are the most ignored team in sports. (Even the Lakers have gotten more back pages over the past year ). Michael Nella Flushing, N.Y. I like Iowa State being in your Top 10, but where is the Stanford basketball team? I think it is the top team in college basketball. The only sad thing about it is, I never get to see them play them play on TV because Duke, UNC, Kentucky or Kansas are on. Mark Jahnke Alexandria, Minn. No.1 on bottom five: Auto racing and heading lower. Four deaths in a year, and no plans for safety improvements! Brian Mount Sinai, N.Y. I don't understand how you can put Gary Sheffield and Barry Bonds at the top and make a comment like that. Grant it Bonds is getting old but for the past three years with the Giants all he's heard about in the offseason is where he might be traded. Give him credit for saying something because if I was in the city I loved I sure wouldn't want to get moved and have that on my mind all spring training. He's still proven he's one of the best in the game, so either give him a new contract or trade him. And Sheffield is right, too. He's produced greatly for the Dodgers. They pay Kevin Brown $15 million a year to pitch once a week and not even bring home an award or win them the division. If anybody deserves $15 million a year it's Sheffield, who plays every day and produces. So either pay them and respect them or trade them. And take them off your list! Steve Murray Zelienople, Penn. The XFL is on a nosedive straight for the dirt. If two "X's" don't appear in front of the league's name anytime soon, money will not be coming in. James Yoon Ramsey, N.J. Everyone knocks the XFL, but I love it! At least the only time they cry is when they lose a close game. I'm tired of the millionaire Ryan Leafs sitting on the bench and whining. XFL players play with heart and desire to win ... What the game used to be about! Josh McDaniel Tennessee You are sooo right. The XFL sucks big. Jon Venlet Conklin, Mich. What is an NCAA team that has in the past few weeks has beaten the Nos. 1, 8, and 19 team in the country? It is the same team that the ESPN/USA Today rankings fail to give any respect to while the AP rankings and the RPI rankings obviously see the truth as they rank this team No. 15 and No. 5, respectively. Oh yeah, UCLA sounds like they fit that description. But you wouldn't know about UCLA, would you? From the past few weeks of rankings, both power and the ESPN/USA Today, it would seem that you don't. David Neinstein Los Angeles Where is UCLA on the Power Poll? They gave Stanford their first loss and then upset Arizona too? Brandon Boese San Luis Obispo, Calif. Nice job picking the 76ers No. 1. They have proven more than any other team that they can win under any circumstances! Anthony Baltimore The Sixers are an up-and-coming team. But as quickly as they rose, they will fall with a trade like that. Ronald Robinson Washington I'm a loyal New York Knicks fan but I think that you should put them on the bottom of this list! Instead of trading for Dikembe Mutombo and getting a great center, they traded for a point guard who has about two good seasons left in him. They made the team older and we still don't have a center. Christopher Irizarry Utica, N.Y. I think the Minnesota Timberwolves deserve to be on the bottom five of your Power Poll. They've lost five in a row after an 11-game winning streak and have fallen to eighth in the Western Conference. If this team makes it to the postseason, Kevin Garnett will taste another first-round loss if this team doesn't get it together right now. Clint Modesto, Calif. |
