Page 2 readers sound off From the Page 2 mailbag | ||||
| Here are your responses to last week's Page 2 Power Poll:
Just for your information, Page 2, there are kids who don't need "Booze" to survive in college. I know it's only a joke but I have to admit I was a little bit upset with that comment because there are kids who have self-esteem problems as far as fitting in during college and the way they have fun. Amit Vaid Skokie, Ill. Although I agree that you can't survive long without "Booze," its return (or his I should say) will mark the return of the true champions as Duke will be as good as drunk after defeating Stanford for the NCAA title. Charlie Maas Lincolnshire, Ill. Come on, guys! Duke being the weakest on the power poll, even weaker than the XFL is not right. Even with Duke's chances for a national title severely hurt because of Boozer's injury, you guys can't rank us lower than that pathetic excuse of professional sports, the XFL. Duke will recover from this injury somehow, and prove all the doubters wrong. Anthony D'Amelio Durham, N.C. What's up with Duke being dubbed weakling of the week? Boozer will be back, we still have the two best players in the nation, and Coach K is the man. Where's the beef? Andy Hall Durham, N.C. Little people lose out? You overlooked Allen Iverson's Fabulous February, Omar Vizquel's contract extension, Maryland upsetting Duke, and CBS topping NBC's Saturday Night rating. Or was it PBS that beat NBC? Dan Davenport, Iowa Dale Earnhardt Inc. is doing great, and is doing exactly what the Intimidator would want them to do. Tiger Woods is only playing the West Coast swing to get ready for Augusta so why is everyone making a big deal about him not winning out there? He is still going to crush everyone at the Masters as well all the other majors this year, and he will still be known as golfer of the year again. Paul Carson Seymour, Tenn. Enough about Dale Earnhardt and automobiles. They are a hobby not a sport. Props to Doug Flutie, I cannot stand Buffalo and neither could he. Hats off to the Bills for another blunder. William Yerton Rochester, N.Y. Top of the Power heap -- Rony Seikaly. Why? Elsa Benitez! Steve Dudzik Chicago Please! Do not put Nomar Garciaparra or any other member of the Sox on Page 2 ... Sports Illustrated has already done enough damage! Scott Ferren Lowell, Mass. Your Top 10 list is ridiculous. You include UCLA but leave off the mighty Florida Gators. They are the hottest team in the country right now and they are showing no signs of cooling off. Even without some of their top players, they beat three top 15 teams in a row by an average of about 15 points. If you are going to include men's college hoops in your list, then you should maybe know a little bit about it. Tommy Gainesville, Fla. Hey, guys, major omission in the Top 10. How about Virginia men's hoops! You had them on the bubble last week, and all they've done since then is win three more ACC games, including a 20-point shellacking of the No. 2 team (UNC) in the country at the time. A little respect for Gillen & Co., please! Otherwise, great job. This is much more entertaining than the regular Power Polls. Riley Swinehart Charlottesville, Va. I approve of your picks, but it's Virginia's hoops, not "second-tier ACC hoops." Beat No. 3 Duke and No. 2 UNC (by 20!) in successive weeks, catapult up to No. 7 in the country and a probable three seed in the Big Dance, stay in front of Kansas and Kentucky and UCLA, and maybe UVa. can play in the Big Dance like they do at home. Chris Wieder Salem, Va. The Buckeyes are red hot and lately. They've been flexing their muscles on Big Ten opponents. Ohio State started the Big Ten season with a 4-5 record and has since gone 6-0, including four consecutive road wins in the conference. The mo' meter is definitely high going into the tournament. Steve Waniewski Columbus, Ohio The Avs fourth and the Red Wings eighth? You must be from Colorado. The Wings' unbeaten streak of 12 is one of the longest in the league this year, better than anything the Avs have done. Detroit did not lose a game in the entire month! And they beat the likes of Ottawa, Phoenix, and St. Louis. Come talk again when they are unbeaten in 12! Brian Lansing, Mich. How can you meatheads rank Colorado (which is a big 5-1-1 in its last seven games) ahead of the 10-0-2 Red Wings? Colorado has yet to beat the Wings this year. Stop smoking that stuff; it will rot your brain. Steve LaBelle Michigan Avs' momentum heading down after acquiring Rob Blake? Anyone out there remember the last two March marches by the Avs? This is the time of year when they shine ... unfortunately March ain't June! Ben Day Colorado I have to disagree that the Colorado Avalanche are on the way down. The acquisition of Rob Blake has reinvigorated this team and should give it just enough to get back to the Stanley Cup finals. Adam Katz Aurora, Colo. I think you have the arrows next to UCLA and Stanford going in the wrong direction. After UCLA beats No. 1 Stanford again you will have wished you listened to me. Matthew Malden, Mass. I agree with you putting UCLA in the Top five, but I cannot see how you gave them a down trend on the mo' meter, unless you are trying to jinx them. The team is peaking right now, and if they beat Cal and Stanford, they will make it to at least the elite eight, which to me is up on the Mo' meter. Josh Burnam Los Angeles I wouldn't quite put the arrow facing down on the UCLA mo' meter ... it's not like they're not the hottest team in the country, especially if they take down No. 1 Stanford again! Steve Los Angeles The loss of both Mike Richter and Theo Fleury should sound the death knell for the Rangers and put them at the top of your weaklings list. Becky Wantage, N.J. You gotta put the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Top 10 and put Tiger Woods in there because his scoring average is the same, but the competition is tougher. Chad Pennsylvania Depending upon how St. Joe's does over the next week in the A-10 Tournament, you may want to give this little-known threat a mention. It had a very impressive comeback win over UMass (down by 19 at one point to win by 15). It is quite a nice winning streak the team has put together, too. This team right now is the class of the A-10 (along with Xavier) and hopefully will give a decent showing in the NCAA Tournament. P.S. After thinking about the jinx, maybe you shouldn't mention St. Joe's until after the A-10 Tournament. ... Dave D'Aulerio Hoboken, N.J. |
