RECAP
READING, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Mike Edwards doubled, homered
and drove in four runs as the Akron Aeros beat the Reading
Phillies, 11-7. Edwards, who extended his hitting streak to 13
games, smacked to two-run homer in the third inning and tied the
score at 7-7 with two-run double in the seventh. Ryan Jones
snapped the tie two batters later with a run-scoring double for
Akron, which has won two straight after losing four in a row.
Chad Whitaker and David Miller hit back-to-back homers in the
fourth inning and Scott Pratt added a solo shot two batters
later for the Aeros. Clint Sodowsky (1-0) yielded an unearned
run and three hits over 2 2/3 innings, striking out two, to pick
up the win. Nick Punto collected a pair of doubles and four RBI
for Reading, which has dropped four of its last six games. Rusty
McNamara, who lengthened his hitting streak to 11 games, and
Pete Rose Jr. both hit a solo homer for the Phillies. Eric
Valent doubled in the third inning to extend his hitting streak
to 17 games for Reading. Brandon Duckworth (0-3), who fanned 11
batters over 6 1/3 innings, was shelled for eight runs and nine
hits, including four homers, to take the loss.
