YANTIC, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Abraham Nunez triggered a
five-run eighth inning with a two-run double as the Portland Sea
Dogs defeated the Norwich Navigators, 8-3. With the score tied
at 3-3, Nunez drove in Jaime Jones and Ross Gload with his
fourth double of the season. John Pachot and Cesar Crespo both
had an RBI single in the frame for Portland, which improved its
road record to 7-5. Gload hit a leadoff double and eventually
scored on a balk in the sixth inning to supply the Sea Dogs with
a 3-2 lead. Paul McCurtain (3-0) struck out a pair and yielded a
hit and a walk over two innings to pick up the win. Marcus
Thames tied the score at 3-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of
the sixth for Norwich. Erick Almonte contributed an two-run
double in the second inning for the Navigators, who lost for
just the third time in their last eight games. Oswaldo Mairena
(0-2), who had not allowed an earned run in his previous nine
appearances, gave up four runs -- three earned -- and three hits
while failing to record an out to suffer the loss.
