GAME LOG
MILWAUKEE (AP) Richie Sexson hit a two-run homer and rookie Ben Sheets out-dueled Kerry Wood for his third straight win as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 on Tuesday night. Sheets (3-2) gave up five hits and struck out four in seven innings. He was relieved by Chad Fox in the eighth after giving up a leadoff home run to Damon Buford, his second, that pulled the Cubs within 4-1. Wood (1-3), who has struck out at least 10 batters in four of his seven games this season, fanned 12. He gave up four runs and two hits and walked three in seven innings. Milwaukee scored three runs in the sixth to go ahead 4-0, two on the homer by Sexson, his sixth of the season. Jeromy Burnitz was on base after being hit by Wood for the second time. The first run came when Jeffrey Hammonds stole second and came home when catcher Todd Hundley's throw sailed into center field. Hammonds reached base when a wild pitch he swung at for a third strike got away from Hundley and he beat the throw to first. The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth with their first hit of the game, a broken-bat single down the first-base line by Raul Casanova to drive in Devon White, who walked to start the inning, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch by Wood. Curtis Leskanic pitched the ninth for his fourth save. Game notesBrewers infielder Mark Loretta was to begin a 20-day rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. Loretta has been sidelined since March with a torn ligament in his left thumb. ... Sexson returned to the lineup after missing one game because of a sore left knee after being hit by a pitch. ... The Cubs' first 20 victories came a lot quicker this season. They reached 20 wins in 31 games compared to 51 in 2000. | OTHER GAMES Baseball Scoreboard Chicago Cubs Clubhouse Milwaukee Clubhouse RECAPS Boston 12 Seattle 4
