GAME LOG
TORONTO (AP) Maybe Miguel Tejada should play for the Blue
Jays.
| | | Jason Giambi goes 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. |
Tejada homered in his sixth straight game at SkyDome as the
Oakland Athletics won their third straight, 14-8 over Toronto on
Thursday night.
"We're not trading him here, I'll tell you that," Oakland
manager Art Howe said.
The Athletics, who have won 12 of their last 13 games at
SkyDome, scored seven runs in the sixth, their biggest inning of
the season, to take a 12-7 lead.
Johnny Damon hit a two-run homer off Lance Painter (0-1), Tejada
hit a tiebreaking three-run shot off Paul Quantrill, Eric Chavez
and Mark Bellhorn followed with consecutive doubles and Ramon
Hernandez hit an RBI single.
"Tejada crushed the ball, and it came at a good time," Howe
said. "That was a game-winner."
Tejada, who has homered in three straight overall, had four
RBI.
"I like to hit here," Tejada said. "There's no sun. When you
play in the dome nothing bothers you."
Jason Giambi went 3-for-4 with a homer for the Athletics, who
swept the three-game series. The 14 runs are a club record against
Toronto.
"This is a big sweep for us," Giambi said. "Toronto has a
great club. They're going to beat a lot of people. Hopefully, it's
a sign that we're coming around."
Toronto's Carlos Delgado hit his AL-leading 13th homer. Delgado
has 203 career homers, tying Joe Carter for the Blue Jays' lead.
Brian Simmons and Darrin Fletcher hit consecutive homers for the
Blue Jays, who have lost five of six to Oakland this season.
"Things have been pretty rough since we went to Oakland," Blue
Jays manager Buck Martinez said.
Toronto starter Steve Parris left after the third inning because
of a personal matter with his wife Gina.
"We got a call during the game, and we made a judgment during
the game that we thought he should know," said Martinez, who added
that it was a private matter.
Giambi's seventh home run gave Oakland a 4-2 lead in the third,
but Simmons' two-run homer and Fletcher's solo shot put Toronto
ahead 5-4 in the bottom half.
After Mark Bellhorn tripled in the fourth, Hernandez's RBI
single tied it at 5.
Tony Batista's two-run homer off Mark Guthrie (1-0) in the
fourth gave Toronto a 7-5 lead, but Oakland rallied with seven runs
in the sixth.
