MOBILE, Ala. -- In preparation for the 2003 Senior Bowl, ESPN.com sat down with Washington State defensive back Marcus Trufant to get his take on everything from his favorite football moment to his musical tastes as he prepares for a professional football career.
Marcus Trufant: It would have to be when I was playing against UCLA two years ago with a cast because of a broken thumb and had an interception, running it back for a few yards. Everybody rallied around me and I waved my club (cast) around me head. 2. What three CDs are getting the most play in your stereo? Trufant: Jay-Z would be in there. Alicia Keys because you have to have a little bit of slow jams in with the rap. And a mix CD with a whole bunch of rap artists. 3. What do you think will be the biggest difference between college and pro football? Trufant: I think it will be the speed and aggressiveness. Everybody will be good. It was like that in college, but will be even more so in the pros. 4. What's the best and worst part of game day? Trufant: The best part is getting out on the field and having fun. The worst part is the time you spend waiting for the game. The anticipation's tough. 5. Do you think there should be a Division I-A playoff? Trufant: I'm not sure. I think things are pretty good as they are, but sometimes things can go haywire with the BCS. If there was a playoff, it might help things. The fans would certainly like it. 6. If you could change one thing about college football, what would it be? Trufant: I'm not sure I would change anything. College football is pretty good the way it is. If we keep it going this way, people will continue to have a lot of fun with it. 7. If you had to play on the other side of the ball, what position would you want to play? Trufant: I would like to play wide receiver or running back. But since I play defense and see how those players get hit, I'll stick with defense. If I had to choose, it would be wide receiver. 8. If you couldn't play football, what sport would you pursue? Trufant: Basketball. I played in high school and it's always been a love of mine. I still play for fun when I get the chance. 9. What player at the Senior Bowl are you looking forward to being on the field with? Trufant: Larry Johnson from Penn State. I want to see him run the ball a little bit. I'm glad he's on my team. 10. What's your first big purchase after signing a pro contract? Trufant: It will be a nice sports car. I'm not sure which one yet. I'm still shopping around -- looking at magazines and watching the commercials on TV. For more information on the 2003 Senior Bowl, go to the official site. |
