Senators tie Leafs for first in East

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

TORONTO (AP) -- The Ottawa Senators showed the Toronto Maple Leafs that they're best team in the Eastern Conference.

Alexei Yashin, Radek Bonk, Andreas Dackell and Marian Hossa scored as Ottawa beat Toronto 4-2 on Saturday night.

Jonas Hoglund, right, and the Maple Leafs have yet to beat the Senators this season.

Ottawa, 3-0 against Toronto this season, tied the Maple Leafs for first place in the East.

"It's a great feeling," Yashin said. "Toronto is a great team and Curtis Joseph is a great goalie. This gives us confidence."

The Senators lost to Toronto in the second round of the playoffs last season, but have won seven of the last nine regular-season games against the Maple Leafs.

"It was a good measuring stick to see where we're at," Joseph said. "We have a lot of work to do."

Joseph has allowed 12 goals in the three losses to the Senators. Ottawa won 4-0 and 4-3 earlier this season.

"It was an important game because we haven't beaten them," Toronto's Gary Roberts said. "They gave us something to think about, but it's only November."

Ottawa's Patrick Lalime made 24 saves.

Darcy Tucker and Roberts scored for the Maple Leafs.

Dackell one-timed a rebound post Joseph at 2:11 of the first. The puck ricocheted off the netcam, but video replays showed it was a goal.

Yashin beat Joseph with a slap shot at 1:20 of the second, and Bonk made it 3-0 with a shot from the side of the net at 12:38.

"On their second and third goals we made bad line changes," Roberts said.

Tucker made it 3-1 after converting a pass from Roberts at 15:13 of the second. Hossa scored with just over 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

Game notes
Toronto's Nik Antropov returned to the lineup while Dmitri Khristich was benched. Antropov, out since the playoffs with a torn ACL in his right knee, replaced Khristich on a line with Tie Domi and Garry Valk line. Khristich has been a major disappointment since signing a four year $10.29 million contract with Toronto last October. The 31-year wing, who had 71 points with Boston two seasons ago, has just 39 in 87 regular season and playoff games with the Maple Leafs. ... The Senators were without Magnus Arvedson (broken left foot) and Martin Havlat (sore right shoulder.) ... Toronto's Shayne Corson and Ottawa's Shane Hnidy fought in the second period. Corson got in a couple of shots as the officials tried to break it up.
