Bonzi Wells
A rising star on a team full of overpaid underachivers, Wells further alienated Trail Blazers followers by telling Sports Illustrated after a 95-89 loss to Charlotte on Dec. 6, "They really don't matter to us. They can boo us every day, but they're still going to ask for our autographs if they see us on the street. That's why they're fans and we're NBA players." Wells later apologized in the form of a statement released by the team, saying "The fans are the most important part of this game and without them, I wouldn't be where I am today. The fans of the Portland Trail Blazers continue to be the best in the NBA and the team has appreciated their support since 1970."

Rex Grossman's dad Florida coach Steve Spurrier benched Rex Grossman for the start of the Orange Bowl because the Gators QB missed curfew. But Grossman's father, Dan, got into the act, saying "the punishment doesn't fit the crime." Dan Grossman was upset that the degree of punishment had changed from running sprints to benching. "He (Rex) was not drunk. He was having a little fun on South Beach. This game is supposed to be a reward for these young guys. There is no excuse for Rex being late, and I do believe in consequences, but he changed the punishment, and that's not right."

Joe Kerrigan
Kerrigan went from well-respected Red Sox pitching coach to questionable manager when he took over for the fired Jimy Williams last year. Besides having to deal with unpredictable Carl Everett and Manny Ramirez, Kerrigan's relationship with superstar pitcher Pedro Martinez became strained as the team faded fast late in the season. He also constantly tinkered with Boston's lineup after promising to keep things consistent.

Drew Bledsoe
The Patriots QB was knocked out of New England's second game with internal bleeding in his chest and watched as Tom Brady took over the No. 1 job. When he got healthy, Bledsoe was noticeably peeved but kept quiet despite being demoted by coach Bill Belichick. Bledsoe contributed to the eventual Super Bowl champs' success by stepping in to lead the Pats to victory over Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship Game after Brady injured his left ankle late in the first half.

Marie-Reine Le Gougne
The now notorious French judge brought herself international scorn at the 2002 Olympics by scoring Russian pairs figure skaters higher than a Canadian pair, who by all accounts skated better and near-flawlessly. Afterwards, she admitted to being pressured to give the Russians a more favorable vote, then she later recanted that story and claimed she voted with her conscience. Tant pis. Now Le Gougne has been suspended indefinitely and the Canadians were awarded gold medals to share with the Russians.
