What the heck were five Republican lawmakers thinking when they sent a letter to PBS expressing concern over Sesame Street's plans to introduce an HIV-positive Muppet to its South African broadcasts?

Bert and Ernie
GOP lawmakers haven't complained about Bert and Ernie ... yet.
A. "We don't care if he's all fuzzy and cuddly, we're going to treat this Muppet the same way we treat all HIV-positive people."

B. "For years, we've turned our heads at the 'awkward relationship' between Bert and Ernie, but we're drawing the line here."

C. "We're also very concerned that Elmo, Big Bird and the Cookie Monster never wear any clothes."

D. "On the flip side, we've always felt that 'Oscar the Grouch' is the perfect role model."

E. "That purple 'Telletubby' corrupted millions of kids, and we can't let something like that happen again."

F. "Repeat after us: The HIV problem in Africa does not exist. The HIV problem in Africa does not exist. ... If you say it enough times, you'll start to believe it."
