| What was Bud Selig thinking? Page 2 staff | ||
As usual, a lot of strange stuff is happening in the world of sports -- and in the real world, for that matter. So, Page 2 is here once again to try to make sense of all the weirdness with another edition of "What the Heck Are They Thinking?"
What the heck was Bud Selig thinking when all of the following happened to him in the last week: He was forced to call off the All-Star Game with the score tied at 7-7 after 11 innings; he was blasted by former commissioner Faye Vincent for his decision in Milwaukee; and he was informed that baseball is being sued by the former minority partners of the Expos for $100 million? A. "Well, if Lou Gehrig was once the 'luckiest man alive,' I guess that means somebody's got to be the 'unluckiest man alive.' " B. "What a weenie-arm that little Omar Vizquel is. I can't believe he wouldn't agree to pitch the bottom of the 12th for the AL." C. "Let's see, if I were to refund all the fans' money, that would mean the owner of the Brewers would be losing money. ... Oh, no. We can't have that." D. "Quick. Get the guys in the sausage suits back on the field. We've got to appease this angry mob." E. "That holier-than-thou Faye Vincent has evidently forgotten that devastating lockout in 1990 that deprived us of all those spring training games." F. "None of this would have happened if baseball had a salary cap."
