TACOMA, Washington (Ticker) -- Pat Ahearne pitched five solid innings and Chad Alexander homered as the Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Las Vegas Stars, 3-1, to sweep the doubleheader. Ahearne (3-0) allowed a run, a walk and five hits, striking out two, to post the win. Alexander, who also doubled, led off the second inning with his homer, staking Tacoma to a 2-0 lead. Brian Lesher, who hit a two-run homer to lead the Rainiers to a 2-0 victory in the first game, opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning. Todd Williams pitched a perfect seventh inning to notch his second save of the doubleheader and league-leading ninth overall. Eric Moody (0-1) gave up three runs and six hits in four innings to take the loss for Las Vegas, which dropped back-to-back games for the first time since April 19-20.
