Morrell Of The Story

1984: BYU's goal-line stand

No. 6 BYU (3-0) led at Hawaii 12-10. The Rainbow Warriors drove to the Cougars' goal line. On third-and-goal at the 1, BYU safety Kyle Morrell timed his leap off quarterback Raphel Cherry's cadence, went over the center and slung Cherry down at the line. Hawaii kicked the field goal to take the lead, but BYU came down and scored a touchdown to win 18-13. Morrell's play inspired the Cougars for the rest of their championship season. -- Maisel
