Fall Of Troy

1985: Oklahoma wishes upon a star

Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer moved away from the wishbone formation because he had a big, strong passer in sophomore Troy Aikman. The No. 3 Sooners (3-0) trailed Miami 14-7 midway through the second quarter. Aikman rolled right and got hammered by Hurricanes defensive tackle Jerome Brown and didn't get up. Aikman's broken ankle forced Switzer to revert to the wishbone and start freshman quarterback Jamelle Holieway. The Sooners never lost again that season. -- Maisel
