Immaculate Reception

1997: Huskers' title bid gets needed kick

The Cornhuskers hadn't lost to Missouri in nearly two decades, but they trailed the 29-point underdogs 38-31 with seven seconds to play. Quarterback Scott Frost threw into the end zone for Shevin Wiggins, who bobbled the ball as he was tackled. But as Wiggins fell to the ground, his legs popped up and kicked the ball into the air. Freshman Matt Davison made a diving catch for a touchdown to tie the score at 38. The Cornhuskers won 45-38 in overtime. They finished the season 13-0 and were ranked No. 1 in the final coaches' poll. -- Schlabach
