DES MOINES, Iowa (Ticker) -- Brian Powell allowed just two hits over seven scoreless innings and James Betzsold homered as the New Orleans Zephyrs edged the Iowa Cubs, 1-0. Powell (2-1), who retired nine batters in a row at one point, issued two walks and struck out five. Betzsold led off the fifth inning with his second home run of the season for New Orleans, which won for the seventh time in eight games. Rick Huisman retired the only two batters he faced to notch his second save and preserve the Zephyrs' third shutout in their last seven contests. Brian McNichol (0-5) surrendered just a run and five hits over seven innings but lost for the fifth time in seven starts. Jose Molina went 2-for-4 with a double for Iowa, which lost its third straight game.
