TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Jason Conti went 5-for-5 with a
triple and a home run as the Tucson Sidewinders topped the Salt
Lake Buzz, 10-8. Conti, who last collected five hits on August
10, 1998 for Tulsa of the Double-A Texas League, highlighted a
five-run third inning with a two-run homer and legged out an RBI
triple in the fifth. Doug Newstrom went 2-for-4 with a pair of
RBI singles and Turner Ward launched a solo blast for Tucson,
which overcame an early 4-0 deficit. John Barnes homered and
knocked in three runs and Doug Mientkiewicz hit a solo shot for
Salt Lake, which has lost eight of its last 13 games. Erik Sabel
(1-2) picked up the win despite allowing five runs and eight
hits over five innings and Johnny Ruffin struck out three of
four batters to record his second save. Starter Benj Sampson
(2-2) was shelled for six runs and nine hits in only 2 1/3
innings to take the loss.
