SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Hawks try to
remain undefeated on their current road trip Tuesday night when
they meet the Sacramento Kings, who have not played like one of
the NBA's best teams lately.
The Hawks have rebounded from a seven-game losing streak by
posting victories over Seattle and Golden State in the first two
games of their six-game trip against Western Conference teams. Jason Terry matched a career high with 38 points as Atlanta won
consecutive games for the first time in more than a month with a
98-91 victory over the Warriors. Terry buried 13-of-21 shots, all nine free throws and handed out
five assists. He has been the sparkplug of the Hawks lately,
leading the team in scoring in each of the last five games. He
has averaged 27 points per game during that stretch.
Sacramento has struggled recently, winning just two of its last
seven games. However, the Kings are 7-2 in their last nine games
at Arco Arena. The Kings, who have played their last three games without
All-Star Chris Webber, sufferred a 94-90 loss to the Utah Jazz
on Sunday. Webber, who has a sprained ankle, will not play
against the Hawks. Peja Stojakovic scored 27 points but missed a potential tying
shot in the final seconds for the Kings, who fell to 21-5 at
home. Sacramento never trailed for the first 43 minutes, but
never regained the lead upon losing it late in the fourth
quarter. The Kings have won eight of the last nine meetings against
Atlanta, but the Hawks handed Sacramento a 107-99 loss on
December 12. Jason Terry scored nine of his career-high 38 points in the
final 1:40, made 12-of-19 shots and 12-of-12 free throws. Jim Jackson came off the injured list to score 20 points and
Dikembe Mutombo had 17 rebounds and five blocks for the Hawks. Webber had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Jason Williams scored 21
points and Vlade Divac added 16 for the Kings, who shot 41
percent (36-of-87), including 5-of-8 from behind the 3-point
arc. Atlanta has not won a game in Sacramento since February 16,
1988.
