ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic go for a
franchise-record 10th consecutive victory Tuesday night when
they play host to the Phoenix Suns.
Orlando tied the previous franchise record and improved to a
season-high five games over .500 with a 96-88 victory over the
New York Knicks on Sunday. Tracy McGrady scored 15 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter
as the Magic won nine straight for the first time since November
12-December 2, 1994, the season they reached the NBA Finals. "I was on fire," McGrady admitted. "I felt that anything I
threw up was going in, so it really didn't matter who they put
on me. I wasn't losing this game. I was going to do whatever it
took."
Rookie Mike Miller scored 15 points and Darrell Armstrong added
14 and nine assists for Orlando, which has not lost since an
embarrassing 81-59 setback against Miami at TD Waterhouse Centre
on January 25. McGrady has scored 67 points in his last two games and Armstrong
is averaging over 10 assists per game over his last three. Orlando pulled within two games of the New York Knicks for third
place in the Atlantic Division and the fourth spot in the
Eastern Conference playoff picture. The Magic are closing a season-high five-game homestand and have
won their last six at home. They are 5-3 at home against
Western Conference opponents. Phoenix has won six of its last eight and is hanging on to the
final playoff spot in the Western Conference. However, the Suns
lost to the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia 76ers,
104-98, in the first game of their four-game road trip Sunday. Jason Kidd collected 22 points and 10 assists and Shawn Marion
added 17 and 13 rebounds for the Suns, who lost for the first
time in three games since the All-Star break. Marion has averaged more than 13 rebounds per game over his last
nine, raising his average to 11.2 rebounds per game. Despite recent success, the Suns are just 3-8 in their last 11
games on the road and 5-4 on the road versus the Eastern
Conference. This is the first of two meetings between the teams this season.
Phoenix has won the last five meetings and has swept the season
series in each of the last two seasons. The Magic's last victory over Phoenix was a 112-105 victory in
Orlando on January 29, 1997.
