TORONTO (Ticker) -- Guard Mark Jackson of the Toronto Raptors
can move into the No. 4 position on the NBA's all-time assist
list Tuesday night when the team plays host to the Golden State
Warriors.
Jackson, who has been dishing the ball off to some of the NBA's
biggest stars for 15 seasons, has 9,062 assists for his career.
He needs just nine more to pass Isiah Thomas and take over
fourth place. Utah's John Stockton is No. 1 on the list with
14,255 and counting. The Raptors hope to have star Vince Carter at full strength for
the Warriors. Carter shot just 3-of-12 from the floor and left in the third
quarter with a right ankle injury Sunday when the Raptors were
defeated, 92-74, by the San Antonio Spurs. Carter had averaged
30.2 points in his previous four games, but played just 30
minutes Sunday.
The 24-year-old Carter missed seven games with a left knee
strain that almost forced him to sit out the Slam-Dunk Contest
at All-Star Weekend. Carter is averaging 27.2 points per game
and the Raptors are 6-8 when he is not the leading scorer. Toronto is looking to avoid its first three-game losing streak
since December 30-January 5. Golden State has lost nine of its last 10 games, with the only
win coming against the Los Angeles Clippers, who are battling
with the Warriors to avoid the cellar in the Pacific Division. The Warriors are coming off a 98-91 loss to the Atlanta Hawks,
who won the game by outscoring Golden State, 27-15, in the final
quarter. Antawn Jamison paced the Warriors with 37 points but
got only six in the fourth quarter. Golden State shot a subpar 36 percent (34-of-95) Sunday and was
held under 100 points for the ninth straight game. Jamison has
scored at least 30 points 12 times this season, but the Warriors
have won just four of those games. The Raptors have won the last five meetings with the Warriors,
including a 108-92 victory at Golden State on December 8 when
Carter scored 29 points.
