CHICAGO (Ticker) -- On paper, Tuesday night's game between the
Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls would appear to be heavily
stacked in favor of the visitors. The Bucks are leading the
Central Division while the Bulls have the worst record in the
NBA.
But, the Bucks had better be careful. The Bulls have been
playing much better recently and have won two of their last
three games. Even the game they lost was close, an 85-84
setback to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. The victory
enabled Cleveland to end its 10-game losing streak, the
franchise's longest in 10 years. The Bulls blew a 13-point lead and wasted two chances to win in
the final seconds. "For the third straight game, we got ahead and had a lead and
gave the lead up," Bulls coach Tim Floyd said. "But we didn't
surrender. We came in and played with some composure."
Fred Hoiberg scored 20 points and Elton Brand added 15 points
and had 15 rebounds for the Bulls, who played without guard Ron
Mercer. Mercer is out with a left ankle injury. Chicago has the worst home record in the NBA (6-17) and kicks
off a seven-game homestand against Milwaukee, which is 11-12 on
the road. Despite some recent success, Chicago has not scored 100 points
in 10 straight games. The Bucks are only 5-5 over their last 10 games, but cooled off
the San Antonio Spurs with a 102-98 victory on Monday. Glenn Robinson scored 23 points, including a 12-footer that
snapped a tie with 49 seconds remaining. Ray Allen also scored 23 points, sinking five 3-pointers, and is
averaging 26.5 points over his last two games. Sam Cassell
scored 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting and added nine assists. The Bucks, who are third in the league in 3-point shooting, were
11-of-19 from beyond the arc and 53 percent (42-of-79) overall. This is the second of four meetings between the teams this
season. The Bulls were blown out by the Bucks, 104-70, on
January 2. It was Milwaukee's most lopsided road win of the
season. Robinson scored 21 points and Tim Thomas scored 20 for the
Bucks, who had six players score in double figures. Milwaukee has won seven of the last nine meetings and three of
the last five in Chicago.
