WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Grizzlies haven't lost
since club owner Michael Heisley received permission from the
NBA last week to actively seek a new home for the team.
The Grizzlies hope to extend their club-record winning streak to
five games Tuesday night when they visit the Washington Wizards. One of Vancouver's top offensive performances of the season came
against Washington on December 20 when Mike Bibby had 26 points
and 12 assists to lead the Grizzlies to a 118-104 victory. Wizards forward Juwan Howard, who scored 34 points in the loss,
promised his team would put forth a better effort the next time
the two teams met.
Washington has not had many strong games this season, but the
Wizards did have a solid outing on Sunday when they beat the
Denver Nuggets, 101-98. Mitch Richmond scored 18 of his 29
points in the second half, including a fallaway jumper with 5.8
seconds to play, as the Wizards halted a six-game losing streak. Early in the third quarter Richmond, a six-time All-Star, moved
past Tom Chambers for 25th place on the NBA's all-time scoring
list. The Wizards are 8-17 at the MCI Center and have won just four of
17 meetings against teams in the Western Conference. Vancouver has experienced the majority of its success against
teams from the East, posting a 10-6 mark. The Grizzlies are
only 5-16 on the road, including Sunday's 110-102 win over the
Minnesota Timberwolves. Michael Dickerson scored 24 points and
Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 20 points and 15 rebounds for
Vancouver. The Grizzlies have eclipsed the century mark in points in
consecutive games for the first time since January 13-15. Vancouver is winless in four trips to Washington.
