ESPN is proud to use our platforms and reach to talk to sports fans about important issues, from cancer research to social justice. And when brands want to talk to consumers about what they believe in and how they are helping their causes, ESPN is there to help them to not only reach sports fans, but DOING GOOD IS SMART FOR BUSINESS to tell authentic, organic stories in a way that only ESPN can. Fundraising & Awareness for the V FoundationUnfortunately, the need for cancer research didnt wane in the wake of all of the other troubles of 2020, so ESPN continued its long tradition of supporting the important work of the V Foundation. Sports fans too recognized the ongoing and urgent work, and ESPNs fundraising was up 17% year over year, with more than$20 milliongoing directly toward cancer research and programs. At the heart of our efforts was raising money and awareness for the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund. This fund, established in honor of the late ESPN sportscaster Stuart Scott, encourages cutting-edge research for African Americans, Hispanics and other minority populations suffering from cancer. The groundbreaking cancer research initiative funds outstanding minority researchers and research that explores the biology behind why some cancers are more likely to occur, more aggressive or harder to treat in some minority populations. Thirty grants have ESPN Fundraising for the V Foundationbeen awarded at 23 cancer centers since the funds inception in 2015. EXPONENTIAL GROWTH IN THE LAST 10 YEARS We showcased the need for this important research with $20.4M Stuart Scott Day during V Week in December, which included $17.2M special programming highlighting the fund. UFC also held $13.9M Fight Like Hell night, in recognition of Stuart and his famous $12.4M words, Fight like hell.
