CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Chris Richards had three hits and
knocked in five runs and Ernie Young and Eduardo Perez both
contributed three RBI as the Memphis Redbirds pounded the
Calgary Cannons, 19-9. Richards doubled home a run in the first
inning, hit a two-run single in the second and ripped a two-run
double during a seven-run third. Young, who finished 2-for-2
with a pair of runs scored and four walks, hit a two-run double
in the third inning and added a solo homer in the fourth. Perez
capped a six-run second inning with a three-run homer for
Memphis, which topped Calgary, 10-1, on Wednesday. Steve Bieser
went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, three runs scored and three
walks for the Redbirds, who have won four straight. Jason
Karnuth (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing eight runs --
five earned -- and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. Julio Ramirez
doubled, tripled and collected three runs and Mike Gulan added
two-run homer for the Cannons. Bronswell Patrick (1-3)
surrendered seven runs, five hits and four walks in two innings
for the loss, Calgary's third straight. Reliever Mike Drumright
was bombed for seven runs, five hits and two walks while
retiring just one batter for the Cannons, who gave up 18 hits
and 12 walks in the game.
