COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Ticker) -- Roberto Vaz and Paul
Sorrento both drove home a pair of runs as the Sacramento River
Cats defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 8-4. Vaz had three
hits, including a two-run single in the fourth inning. Sorrento
hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and singled home Randy
Velarde in the eighth. Velarde also had three hits, including an
RBI single in the third inning, for Sacramento, which has won
six of its last eight contests. Jose Ortiz went 3-for-5 with a
pair of doubles to extend his hitting streak to 12 games for the
River Cats. Bryan Corey (2-1) allowed a run and five hits over 2
2/3 innings to post the win. John Cotton and Juan Sosa both hit
a solo home run for Colorado Springs. Doug Linton (0-3) suffered
the loss, surrendering six runs -- five earned -- and 12 hits in
six innings.
