LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- Junior Herndon pitched six scoreless
innings and Joe Vitiello went 4-for-5 with two RBI to lead the
Las Vegas Stars to a 9-4 victory over the Tucson Sidewinders.
Herndon (4-1), who also tossed six scoreless frames in his
previous start, allowed just four hits and three walks, striking
out three, to pick up the win. Vitiello hit an RBI single to cap
a four-run sixth inning and added a run-scoring double in the
eighth. Mike Darr went 3-for-5 with three runs and Dusty Allen
hit a two-run homer for Las Vegas, which won for the eighth time
in its last nine home games. Craig Counsell went 4-for-4 and Rod
Barajas hit a two-run double for Tucson, which lost its fifth
game in a row. Erik Sabel (0-2) surrendered four runs -- three
earned -- and eight hits over four innings to take the loss.
