ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Ticker) -- Brent Cookson belted a pair
of homers and knocked in five runs and Heath Murray threw a
complete game as the Albuquerque Dukes pounded the Fresno
Grizzlies, 12-1. Cookson hit a leadoff homer in the second
inning, lofted a sacrifice fly in the third, delivered an RBI
single in the fourth and launched a two-run shot in the sixth.
Murray (1-2) allowed six hits and one run, striking out four, to
earn his first win in eight outings. Adam Melhuse capped a
five-run third inning with a two-run blast and Shawn Gilbert
collected three hits, including a pair of doubles and a triple,
and had two RBI for Albuquerque, which has won four of its last
five games. Damon Minor hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to
provide the lone offense for Fresno, which has dropped eight of
its last 11 games. Losing pitcher Ryan Jensen (1-1) was roughed
up for 10 hits and nine runs in only 3 2/3 innings.
