SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Chad Akers and Robert Machado both
drove home a pair of runs as the Tacoma Rainiers edged the Salt
Lake Buzz, 7-6. Akers ripped a two-run double in the second
inning for Tacoma, which has won four of its last five games.
Machado had three hits, including RBI singles in the third and
sixth innings. Chad Alexander added three hits and an RBI for
the Rainiers. Pat Ahearne (2-0) allowed four runs and eight
hits, striking out four, in six innings for the win. Kevin
Hodges yielded a run and three hits over two innings for his
first save of the year. Doug Mientkiewicz had three hits and two
RBI and Mario Valdez smacked a solo home run for Salt Lake,
which has dropped six of its last nine. Scott Randall (3-1) was
saddled with the loss, surrendering six runs and eight hits,
walking four, in 3 2/3 innings for the win.
