EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- Jarrod Washburn took a no-hitter
into the eighth inning and combined with Lou Pote on a
two-hitter as the Edmonton Trappers defeated the Memphis
Redbirds, 4-2. Washburn (3-0) allowed nothing but five walks
until Luis Garcia led off the top of the eighth with a single to
center field. Henry Mercedes followed with a homer to cut the
Memphis deficit to 3-2. Pote relieved Washburn and hurled two
scoreless innings to pick up his second save. Keith Johnson had
two doubles and Larry Barnes hit his second home run for
Edmonton, which has won four of six. Luther Hackman (2-2)
yielded four hits and three runs -- two earned -- in five
innings to take the loss for Memphis, which has lost two of
three.
