FRESNO, California (Ticker) -- Barry Zito tossed six hitless
innings and Roberto Vaz belted a grand slam homer as the
Sacramento River Cats blanked the Fresno Grizzlies, 6-0. Zito
(3-2), who allowed just an unearned run over six innings in his
last start, issued four walks and struck out six to earn the
win. Reliever Tim Kubinski gave up a single to Travis Young with
two outs in the eighth inning to end the no-hit bid. Vaz
higlighted a six-run sixth inning with his fourth homer of the
season. Mark Bellhorn followed Vaz's grand slam with a solo shot
and Danny Ardoin had an RBI double for Sacramento, which has won
four games in a row. Mike Riley (1-2) yielded three runs on six
hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for Fresno, its fifth
straight.
