DES MOINES, Iowa (Ticker) -- Glen Barker had three hits and
Tripp Cromer singled and tripled as the New Orleans Zephyrs
defeated the Iowa Cubs, 5-3. Barker singled and scored on a base
hit by Mike Robertson, putting New Orleans ahead, 3-0, in the
third inning. Marc Sagmoen led off the fourth with a double and
Cromer followed with an RBI triple to increase the Zephyrs'
advantage to 4-0. Julio Zazueta was hit by a pitch with the
bases loaded and Raul Gonzalez knocked in two with a single to
cut the Iowa deficit to 4-3. New Orleans starting pitcher Bryan
Wolff led off the seventh with a double and scored on a single
by Barker to account for the final run of the game. Wolff (2-1)
allowed four hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings to get the
win. Wayne Franklin retired two batters in the ninth to pick up
his third save for the Zephyrs, who have won six of seven. Todd
Van Poppel (3-4) surrendered nine hits and five runs in 6 2/3
innings to take the loss for the Cubs, who have lost two of
three in the series.
