10 Questions with Penn State RB Larry Johnson

ESPN.com

MOBILE, Ala. -- In preparation for the 2003 Senior Bowl, ESPN.com sat down with Penn State running back Larry Johnson to get his take on everything from his favorite football moment to his musical tastes as he prepares for a professional football career.

Larry Johnson
Penn State's Larry Johnson wouldn't mind getting into the boxing ring.
1. What was your best college football moment on the field?

Larry Johsnon: Playing with my brother, Tony, is my favorite moment. We always played together when we were younger, but to do it at a place like Penn State means a lot.

2. What three CDs are getting the most play in your stereo?

Johnson: I've been playing the Glory soundtrack, the Gangs of New York soundtrack and Tupac.

3. What do you think will be the biggest difference between college and pro football?

Johnson: Speed. Everyone will be running faster than you are and you will have to be able to adjust very quickly -- or you won't be able to adjust at all.

4. What's the best and worst part of gameday?

Johnson: Waiting is the worst part. You wake up at 7 in the morning, but don't play until 1 p.m. You are just so nervous and want to get things going. The best thing is being so charged up for so long and being able to get out on the field and just explode.

5. Do you think there should be a Division I-A playoff?

Johnson: I don't think so. Have a 12-game schedule and let that be it.

6. If you could change one thing about college football, what would it be?

Johnson: Make the number of games equal. Some teams play 13 or 14 games, while other teams only play 12. I think that's a reason the Heisman thing dragged on longer than it should have.

7. If you had to play on the other side of the ball, what position would you want to play?

Johnson: I'd probably play safety, where you have the chance to hit at full speed. If you can come up there flying with 4.4 speed, I don't think many people would want you to hit them.

8. If you couldn't play football, what sport would you pursue?

Johnson: I never boxed as a kid, but always wondered if I could get out there and fight. I have a wild temper, so I know I could go a round or two.

9. What player at the Senior Bowl are you looking forward to being on the field with?

Johnson: Louisville QB Dave Ragone. I've seen him on TV and he is such a great player with great heart. He took such a pounding in the game against FSU and kept getting up. To be out on the field with him will be great.

10. What's your first big purchase after signing a pro contract?

Johnson: I don't know. A car probably because I keep banging mine up.
