What the heck are they thinking?

What were the Academy Award voters thinking when they gave the Oscar for Best Song to a tune by Randy Newman, with vocal performance by John Goodman, passing over Sting, Paul McCartney and Enya in the process?

John Goodman
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's Oscar-winning singer John Goodman."
A. "John Lennon was the true force behind the Beatles. ... What's McCartney ever done?"

B. "Yeah, Enya's songs are beautiful. But does anybody really understand what she's saying?"

C. "Sting once had a song where all he did was sing, 'A-do, do, do, A-dah, dah, dah' over and over again. How much talent does that take?"

D. "There's no harm in letting our kids vote for one category."

E. "John Goodman had to be on that show with Roseanne for all those years. ... If that's not worthy of an Oscar, what is?"

F. "All right, we've made Randy Newman suffer long enough for recording 'I Love L.A.' Let's give him the damn award."
