Mike Stanton
From the 6 train to the 7 train in 15 minutes.
What the heck were the Yankees thinking when they gave longtime set-up reliever Mike Stanton 15 minutes to accept a two-year contract for less than he made the last six years, during which he helped the Yankees win three world championships? (Stanton eventually signed with the crosstown Mets.)

A. "Hey, we offered to give him Regis Philbin and two lifelines to help make the decision."

B. "Like Andy Warhol said, everyone will have their 15 minutes to accept an insulting contract offer."

C. "We wanted to test this whole low-balling, reverse-psychology strategy before we try it for real on Clemens."

D. "That's 14 minutes more than we're giving Sterling Hitchcock."

E. "We knew he wouldn't go for it. Not with our dental coverage."

F. "How much time does he really need? It only took Giambi two minutes to accept his offer."
