The 15th hole wound up the fifth tie of the evening for Woods and Duval.
In the California twilight, both used a 3-iron to begin the par-4, 425-yard hole. And both reached the fairway cleanly, Tiger about 15 yards farther, smiling on their way to their respective second shots together, recognizing the fans. On his second shot, Duval, from 139 yards out, hit the green to set up a birdie putt. From 120 yards away, Tiger's was better with the sand wedge, rolling back to within eight feet from the cup on perhaps the shot of the evening. Woods narrowly missed his birdie putt, giving Duval yet another chance to make up a hole. But Duval also missed his 15-footer. The poor putting left them both with par, keeping Woods 1-up overall with three to go.
