TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Esteban Beltre went 3-for-3 with
four RBI and Jason Conti knocked in three runs as the Tucson
Sidewinders snapped a six-game losing streak with a 9-5 victory
over the Salt Lake Buzz. Beltre delivered RBI base hits in the
third and fifth inning and his third RBI single broke a 5-5 tie
in the sixth. Conti lifted a sacrifice fly in the third inning,
drove in a run with a bunt single in the fifth and had an RBI
hit in the eighth. Mike Mitchell, who scored three runs, went
4-for-4 with a double and triple for Tucson. Doug Mientkiewicz
and Jeff Ferguson launched back-to-back homers in the second
inning for Salt Lake, which has lost three straight games and
seven of its last 10. Oscar Villareal (1-0), appearing in his
first game of the season, threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless
relief to pick up the win and Marty Janzen recorded his first
save by allowing just one hit over the final two innings. Dan
Perkins (2-4) was shelled for 11 hits and six runs in 5 1/3
innings to take the loss.
