Mets closer Edwin Díaz, who has made his living with a fastball-slider combo, unveiled a changeup in his outing Monday night against the Braves. It was the first time he's thrown one since 2020, according to Statcast. Díaz said he threw a changeup as a starter in the minors and he's been working on it over the last two weeks to give hitters a different look. The pitch was clocked at 94.5 mph; he wants it at 90-91 mph to play off his upper-90s fastball better. It’s a work in progress.
