The Patriots are filling their final open roster spot by signing James Madison edge Xavier Holmes, according to Holmes' agent. The 6-foot-2, 252-pound Holmes, who played at Maine from 2021-2024, was one of 17 players who attended the team's weekend rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. He had six sacks last season for JMU. In the pre-draft process, Holmes was timed at 4.76 in the 40-yard dash, and totaled 22 repetitions on the bench press.
