Monday will be the 100th anniversary of the start of Lou Gehrig’s streak of 2,130 consecutive games played. Today is the 43rd anniversary of the start of the streak that broke his record - Cal Ripken Jr.’s first of 2,632 straight games. Gehrig pinch hit 6/2/25 for shortstop Pee-Wee Wanninger (the only p.h. appearance of the Iron Horse’s career), a fly out to left vs. Walter Johnson. Ripken played third base 5/30/82 & went 0-2 with a walk vs. Toronto. Gehrig’s Yankees & Ripken’s Orioles lost.
