What do Cubs get in Kendall?

It's kind of hard to figure out why the upstart Cubs felt the need to tinker with a good thing, but they made a move Monday that some deem significant by adding catcher Jason Kendall to the mix.

Kendall has had a terrible year on both the offensive and defensive ends, but his numbers are actually not too bad compared to what the Cubs have been working with. There may also be the feeling that having a veteran behind the plate brings an intangible quality that goes beyond the statistics. Regardless, the Cubs aren't asking Kendall to do much with the bat. They just need a small contribution to maintain the way they've played over the last 20 games.
