News: 8 hours agoBader went 2-for-2 in the Cardinals' intrasquad game Saturday night, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Spin: Bader was responsible for all of his side's hits during the three-inning contest, singling in the opening inning and adding a two-out double in the final frame. The success at the plate is key for Bader, who is looking to strengthen his grip on an everyday role during summer camp and build some momentum with the bat after hitting just .229 (8-for-35) in 12 Grapefruit League games this spring.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Bader's defensive prowess has kept him in the lineup on a regular basis, but his bat has yet to develop. In 406 PA last season he hit .205/.314/.366 with a 28.8 K%, far too high a rate for a player without any real power. A .268 BABIP held his numbers down somewhat, but it's hard to hit for a high average when you just don't hit the ball very hard, and Statcast gave him an xBA of .219. The Cardinals figure to give him enough at-bats to matter in deeper formats, at least early on, and the speed is there for him to steal double-digit bases. If his bat does not come along, however, Dexter Fowler, Lane Thomas or Dylan Carlson could take over in center field and send Bader to the bench.
