SAN FRANCISCO AT NY METS, POSTPONED (POWER OUTAGE)

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Thursday's game between the San

Francisco Giants and New York Mets at Shea Stadium was postponed

due to the widespread power outage in the New York City area.

The game was not immediately rescheduled.

Power in the New York City area was lost in the late afternoon.

Mets officials did not open gates at Shea Stadium to fans before

deciding to postpone the game shortly after 6 p.m. EDT.

The Giants would have played Thursday without superstar Barry

Bonds, who was placed on the bereavement list Thursday to be

with his ailing father, Bobby. Bobby Bonds recently underwent

heart surgery in the Bay Area.

The Giants are scheduled to begin a weekend series in Montreal

against the Expos on Friday. The Mets will host the Colorado

Rockies on Friday.
