D-backs beat Dodgers in split-squad game benefiting victims of Tucson shooting

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Armando Galarraga went six innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 Friday in a game between split squads that benefited victims of the January shooting that killed six and injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Dallas Green, brother of victim Christina-Taylor Green and grandson of former major league manager Dallas Green, threw out a first pitch. So did Ken Dorushka, who was injured in the shooting.

"The Tucson community -- look at the crowd out there -- that's what we're proud of," said John Green, the kids' father and a Dodgers scout. "We're proud everybody showed their support."

Galarraga allowed three runs and five hits as he tries to make Arizona's rotation.

Dodgers starter Tim Redding came out of the game with lower back pain after three innings. He allowed two runs and six hits in three innings.

Ryan Roberts hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh.

The stadium hosted a sellout of 10,820 for the game. Proceeds went to the Tucson Together Fund, which assists those affected by the shooting.

The Dodgers brought regulars Andre Ethier, Tony Gwynn, Jamey Carroll and first baseman James Loney.

"We had guys signing up for it, which I like with our club," Mattingly said.

For the Diamondbacks, Chris Young, Justin Upton and catcher Henry Blanco were among those making the trip.

"It's more than us making the trip -- it's the people of Tucson coming out and supporting a great cause," Upton said. "We're excited to be here. It's where we've spent the spring quite a few years, so it's good to come back."
