Fantasy Men's Basketball
News: 1 day agoVanVleet finished with 17 points (5-12 FG, 5-12 3Pt, 2-3 FT), seven assists, two rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes during Friday's 135-117 preseason win over Dallas.
Spin: VanVleet made his first appearance since suffering an ACL injury more than a year ago. Despite the layoff, VanVleet looked good in his 24 minutes, providing the team with some much-needed guidance. Although there could be some limitations heading into the season, the fact that he played 24 minutes in what was basically a meaningless game bodes well for anyone willing to take a chance on him in drafts.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: VanVleet missed all of last season with a knee injury, but perhaps more importantly the Rockets missed him. Even with the addition of Kevin Durant last season, the Rockets were only able to win the same 52 games they had won with VanVleet at the helm the season before. VanVleet therefore returns to his role as starting point guard with job security despite the depth of quality perimeter players the Rockets have on roster. His production expectation this season is similar to the 2024-25 campaign, making him a top-100 player that has top-50 upside if he instead returns to his levels from the early 2020s.
