News: 16 hours agoWembanyama recorded nine points (3-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT), six rebounds, an assist and a block across 17 minutes in Thursday's 123-116 preseason loss to the Hawks.
Spin: Wembanyama played a relatively modest role statistically, attempting just six shots while San Antonio limited its starters to first-half action. The abbreviated workload is expected, as San Antonio eased its franchise centerpiece into preseason competition. He should be one of the first players off the board in every fantasy draft and is expected to be a massive contributor on both ends of the court for the Spurs once the regular season begins Oct. 20 against the Thunder.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Wembanyama made a leap in Year 3 as arguably the most impactful player in the NBA. On the fantasy front, he set new career highs in scoring (25.0 PPG), rebounds (11.5 RPG) and field goal percentage (51.2%). He took a step back in both blocks (3.1 BPG) and 3-pointers (1.9 3PG), but he still led the league in blocks by a large margin and was top-5 among centers in treys. Wembanyama has missed 54 games over the last two seasons, so durability is a concern, but otherwise he projects as potentially the top producer in category leagues.
